HEIC to JPG converter

iPhones save photos as HEIC by default, a format many Windows programs, older Android phones and some websites still can't open. Convert to JPG here to make a photo work everywhere.

How to use the heic to jpg converter

  1. Choose or drag in your HEIC files.
  2. Set a quality level.
  3. Download the JPG — this step loads a small conversion library the first time you use it, so give it a moment.

How it works

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Format) is Apple's default photo format since iOS 11, chosen because it stores photos at roughly half the file size of an equivalent JPG. The trade-off is compatibility: plenty of software outside Apple's ecosystem doesn't recognise it.

Converting decodes the HEIC image and re-encodes it as JPG using a browser-based library, since browsers don't natively decode HEIC the way they do JPG or PNG. Live Photos and burst-mode HEIC files bundle extra motion data that this conversion doesn't handle — for those, use your phone's own share or export option instead.

Common questions

Why won't my Windows PC open a photo from my iPhone?

It's very likely saved as HEIC. Convert it here, or change your iPhone's setting under Settings, Camera, Formats, to Most Compatible so future photos save as JPG automatically.

Is there a quality loss converting HEIC to JPG?

A small one, since both formats are lossy and re-encoding involves a fresh compression pass, but it's rarely visible at a high quality setting.

Does this work for Live Photos?

No — Live Photos bundle a short video with the image, which a straightforward HEIC-to-JPG conversion doesn't preserve. Share the photo as a still image from your phone first.
