How it works
Resizing is done on an HTML canvas with high-quality smoothing, then re-encoded at your chosen quality. Quality between 75 and 85 is the usual sweet spot for photographs: below about 70 compression artefacts start showing in smooth gradients like skin and sky.
Format matters as much as quality. JPEG is smallest for photographs but has no transparency; PNG keeps transparency and sharp edges, which suits logos and screenshots; WebP usually beats both by 25–35% at the same visual quality and is supported by every current browser.

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is read by your browser and processed on your own device — there is no server behind this page.
How do I get an image under 100 KB?
Reduce the pixel dimensions first, then lower quality. Halving the width and height cuts the pixel count to a quarter and usually does most of the work.
Which format should I choose?
WebP for the web when you can, JPEG for maximum compatibility in photographs, PNG when you need transparency.
