Loans, savings, pricing and pay — worked out precisely. 7 tools, all free and all running in your browser.

Borrowing is easy to agree to and hard to picture. This calculator turns a loan amount, an interest rate and a term into the two numbers that actually matter: what leaves your account each month, and what the loan costs you in total before it is gone.

Most mortgage calculators stop at principal and interest, which is rarely what leaves your account. This one adds property tax, insurance and any service charge, so the figure at the top is the one you should compare against your monthly income.

Compounding is the reason a modest monthly deposit becomes a serious sum given enough time. Enter what you start with, what you add each month and the return you expect, and the calculator separates the money you put in from the money the money made.

Shops are good at making a discount sound larger than it is, particularly when they stack one offer on another. Enter the original price and the offers and this tells you the price at the till and the true percentage off.

Dividing a bill at the end of a meal is arithmetic nobody wants to do in front of other people. Enter the bill, tap a tip percentage and say how many of you there are.

Job offers arrive in different units — one quotes an hourly rate, the next an annual package — and they are not comparable until you convert them. This does it in both directions using the hours you actually work.

Invoicing needs the tax split out; pricing needs it added on. This does both, and the reverse calculation is the one people get wrong most often.
