Final grade calculator

The question everyone asks in the last week of term, answered in one line. Enter your actual marks rather than a pre-calculated percentage, pick a grading table, and see the score you need — plus whether the target is still reachable at all.

How to use the final grade calculator

  1. Choose a grading table so letter grades match your own country's bands.
  2. Enter the marks you've scored so far and what they were out of — the tool works out the percentage for you.
  3. Enter what percentage of the course the final is worth, and the overall grade you're aiming for.

How it works

The required score is (target − current × (1 − weight)) ÷ weight, where 'current' is your marks-so-far percentage. If you've scored 78 out of 100 so far, the final is worth 40% of the course, and you want 85 overall, you have 46.8 points locked in and need 95.5% on the final to close the gap.

Two sanity checks come free. If the required score is above 100 the target is out of reach, and the tool shows the best letter grade you can still finish on. If it is below zero, the target is already secured whatever happens in the exam.

Letter grades are shown for your current standing, the target, and several what-if scores on the final, using whichever grading table you choose — Pakistani board bands or US letters. Pick the one that matches your own institution.

Common questions

What grade do I need to pass?

Set the target to your institution's pass mark, commonly 50 or 60, and read the required score and its letter grade.

Why does it ask for marks instead of a percentage?

So you don't have to calculate your current percentage by hand first — enter what you actually scored and out of what, and the tool does the division.

Do letter grade bands differ by country?

Yes, considerably. A 75% is a B in the US common scale but an A under many Pakistani board tables. Choose the grading table that matches your own school.
