Most institutions set a hard attendance bar, commonly 75%, and enforce it at the end of term when there is nothing left to do about it. This shows where you stand now and how much room you have left.
How to use the attendance calculator
- Enter classes held so far and how many you attended.
- Set the attendance percentage your institution requires.
- Enter the total number of classes scheduled for the whole term.
How it works
Your percentage is attended ÷ held × 100. The margin calculation looks at the whole term: if 60 classes are scheduled and 75% is required, you must attend 45, so your total allowance is 15 absences minus whatever you have already used.
Recovery is less forgiving than people assume, because every class you miss raises both sides of the fraction. To pull an attendance rate back up to r from a attended out of h held, you need at least (r × h − a) ÷ (1 − r) consecutive attendances — which is why a quiet fortnight early in the term can take a month to undo.
