Date difference calculator

Count the gap between two dates without a calendar and a pencil. It separates calendar days from working days, which is the distinction that matters for notice periods and project deadlines.

How to use the date difference calculator

  1. Pick a start and an end date.
  2. Tick the inclusive option if both the first and last day should count.
  3. Read total days, weekdays, weekend days and the breakdown in years and months.

How it works

Total days come from the difference between the two dates, with leap years handled automatically. The weekday count walks each day in the range and excludes Saturdays and Sundays — it does not know your local public holidays, so subtract those yourself.

The inclusive option matters more than it looks. Contracts and hospital stays are usually counted inclusively, while most other date arithmetic is not, and the difference of one day occasionally changes an outcome.

Common questions

Does it exclude public holidays?

No — holidays differ by country and region. The weekday figure excludes weekends only.

How many working days are in a year?

Roughly 260 before holidays and leave. Enter 1 January to 31 December to get the exact figure for a given year.
