How it works
Age is counted the way people count it: full years first, then the leftover months, then the leftover days. Month lengths are handled properly, so the calculation borrows the correct number of days from the preceding month rather than assuming 30.
The as-of date field is the useful part. Admission cut-offs, visa rules, insurance bands and sporting age groups are all defined on a particular date, and being a few weeks out can change the answer.
